Featured Article - Living Water
"I have a dream!" Martin Luther King's famous quotation expresses my heart after returning from Uganda, Africa. I discovered the shocking fact that more children die in Africa from drinking diseased water than all the deaths caused by hunger and war combined. The children in the above photo are drinking water stored in a rusty 55 gallon can with the top cut off. This is a staggering reality, but it is something we can address, if we work together. I have a dream to buy equipment for drilling wells that would meet needs in Africa. We could raise money to hire someone to drill a well, or we could raise money to buy the drilling rig and drill many "living water wells." Needless to say, my dream takes money, some technical know-how, and favor with the Ugandan government. I did not say it was a simple dream! In fact, it is a very big dream for this ministry, but we have a very big God! Amen! Would you begin to pray and ask God to help us drill that first well? To provide clean water for the city of Mityana, there needs to be 4 wells drilled. Then, people would have to carry water no more than one-half mile. Each well would cost around $7,000.00 US dollars and would be about 150 feet to 300 feet deep (from $47 to $23 a foot). This newsletter goes out to around 700 people in the US. If each one would buy one foot at $47.00, we would have $32,900, enough to drill all 4 living water wells needed in Mityana. Just imagine, if just half of you would invite a friend to buy a foot , then we could be closer to owning the drilling equipment that can drill wells for as long as the equipment lasts. Each well will serve the community for 15 to 25 years providing healthy, clean water. I have a dream. I am asking you to dream that dream and live that dream with me. There is a need for clean water in a number of countries, and I am prayerful that this may be an ongoing part of Decision Ministries. There is also a great need to take care of children. In Africa there are thousands of children who have been orphaned as a result of AIDS. In Central America and the Philippines children spend their days on top of garbage dumps trying to find something that will help them survive. Even here in the USA there are many children that need help. Decision Ministries is a vehicle for you to have a ministry that can make a difference in people's lives. We want you to know and understand the needs that are there and the opportunities that are also there. Pray, give, come help us. This is your ministry. Together we can make a difference in the world by building the kingdom of God. One cup of water, one child at a time. Please ask God what part you can do today! Thank you, for your loving gifts, prayers and partnership. Fred Hughes [Return To Top] Prophetic Countdown - Hope, vital for the days ahead
The word of God is always better than any words that I might share with you. As you read these scriptures please allow the Holy Spirit to quicken the prophetic value of the word HOPE. There are difficult days ahead, but hope is the powerful enduring word from God in this hour. Please hide this word and the understanding of it in your heart for it is vital, and it is what will move you through in the days ahead. HOPE ~ Strong's 1680. elpis, el-pece'; from a prim. elpo (to anticipate, usually with pleasure); expectation (abstr. or concr.) or confidence:--faith, hope. "So God has given us both His promise and His oath. These two things are unchangeable, because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore we who have fled to Him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us." Hebrews 6:18 NLT. Can reeds thrive without water? While still growing and uncut, they wither more quickly than grass. Such is the destiny of all who forget God; so perishes the hope of the godless. What he trusts in is fragile; what he relies on is a spider's web. Job 8:11b-14 NIV Be strong and take heart all you who hope in the LORD. Psa 31:24 NIV A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save. But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, Psa 33:17 -18 NIV
Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. Psa 42:5
Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. Psa 62:5-6
But as for me, I will always have hope; I will praise you more and more. My mouth will tell of your righteousness, of your salvation all day long, though I know not its measure. Psa 71:14 -15
Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, (when the thing that you have been hoping for shows up!) it is a tree of life. Prov 13:12 KJV (God will use us to deliver hope in the form of living water wells - trees of life in Africa. God will use whatever He needs to use to show up with what you are hoping for, too! Praise be to God! He is no respecter of persons, but He always works through people).
but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isa 40:31 NIV (KJV says those who wait... Wait, in Hope) For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. J er 29:11 NIV (KJV says "an expected end")
But as for me, I watch in hope for the LORD, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me. Micah 7:7 NIV
Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: Acts 2:26 KJV
Against all hope, Abraham in hope, believed and so became the father of many nations, Rom 4:18 NIV
Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. Rom 5:3-5 NIV
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Rom 12:12 There is one body and one Spirit-- just as you were called to one hope when you were called-- one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. Eph 4:4-6 NIV
To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Col 1:27
For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes? Is it not you? 1 Th 2:19 Indeed you are the hope of glory that is revealed in the earth. Jesus is the Glory! You and I are the reflection of Christ's glory here on earth. Our little light needs to shine! Like a diamond we have no light of our own, but He has made us to be a brilliant reflector of His light, His faith, His hope, His love. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. 1 Cor 13:13 But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. 1 Th 5:8
Hope is like strapping your hand to the saddle horn on a bronco. It will hold you in place during the wild and furious 8 second ride. After a few successful rides you will walk away with the prize. We are going to have a few ups and downs in this short life, but hope will help you through them all. Heb 10:25b ... let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching. My friends that day is approaching. Jesus is the soon-coming King. Now is the time; today is the day of salvation. Hope is a mighty light in your hand. Shine it into this dark world, and you will light the way for many to find The Way. Jesus said, "I am the way"
Fred Hughes [Return To Top] Decision One - Knowing Hope The scriptures tell us that there is a Hope within us. The good news, Emmanuel, meaning "God with us," more importantly, "God in us." The spirit of Jesus, the Holy Spirit, lives in us. Jesus is the Word according to John 1:1, and Rev 19:13 says, "He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God." To hope is to have an understanding of, a clear picture of the end of an expectation. In the NFL there are several teams ready each year to play football. Each of those teams must have HOPE from the very first fall workout until HOPE is manifested in reality. Their clear hope is to win the Super Bowl. They have to know what they are hoping for. They must have a picture of holding the prize in their hand. Now, what gets them to that realization of their hope are steps of faith, actions directed by Hope. They know that each game is important to reaching a fulfillment to hope, the Super Bowl. Therefore they exercise in the faith the belief that they can win the game that they are to play next. In doing so, they mix action to their faith for a win, and hope comes one step closer to them. Psa 147:11 the LORD delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love. James 1:22-25 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror, and after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it--he will be blessed in what he does. Decision One! Lock on to the HOPE that is within you and be a doer of the word. You will like the results! Fred Hughes
[Return To Top] Trips & Tips
March 20th (my birthday) I leave on a very important trip to South and Central America. This trip will shape some very critical relationships, and it is sure to set several ministry direction decisions. I ask for your prayers before, during, and after this trip. The trip will be from March 20th through March 31st. Thank you so much! The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. James 5:16 NIV Thank you again for your prayers and for your financial support, without which we could do very little indeed!
