Featured Article - .Hope is an Anchor!..... Hope

The season of fall along with Thanksgiving is always a great time of the year. There are so many great things that remind me of how thankful we all need to be. As we look to the colder winter weather approaching, we should also be mindful of the great needs we have for God's provision in our lives. Hope, rather than hopelessness, is what we need to see us through to a victorious and fulfilled life in Christ. Hope, the scripture tells us, is an anchor! An anchor is somethingthat when applied properly can hold even through the roughest storms.

Heb 6:19-20 This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.

The early church was in a hostile environment that needed an anchor. The new frontier of America was harsh; the pilgrims needed an anchor. Today we face new uncertainties, and we need an anchor. Hope in Christ alone is the tried-and-true anchor of the soul.

Psa 42:5 Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him For the help of His countenance.

Psa 119:147- 148 I rise before the dawning of the morning, And cry for help; I hope in Your word. My eyes are awake through the night watches, That I may meditate on Your word.

Our ability as Christians to place our hope in God is astablizing factor. As we give God praise and thanksgiving, worship and honor, we see He is faithful tostop the storm or see us through it!

Lam 3:24-26 "The LORD is my portion," says my soul, "Therefore I hope in Him!" The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. It is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.

The word "soul" keeps showing up in many of the same verses as the word "hope," and for a good reason. Hope is the anchor of the soul. Soul [Strong's 5590. psuche, psoo-khay'; from G5594; breath, i.e. (by impl.) spirit, abstr. or concr. (the animal sentient principle only; thus distinguished on the one hand from G4151, which is the rational and immortal soul; and on the other from G2222, which is mere vitality, even of plants: these terms thus exactly correspond respectively to the Heb. H5315, H7307 and H2416) -- heart (+ -ily), life, mind, soul, + us, + you.] Soul speaks of our mind, will, and emotions. This is very important, becauseit is really where we live day to day. God wants to breathe into us His heart, His life, His mind, and His soul into our soul -- becoming together as one! Now look at the definition of hope. (Hope ~ 1680. elpis, el-pece'; from a prim. elpo (to anticipate, usually with pleasure); expectation (abstr. or concr.) or confidence:--faith, hope.

With great expectation we are looking for the God-breathed ability to have the same heart, mind, life and soul as God so that we can know Him! Through Him, or in Him, we live and move and have our being! Acts 17:28.

Go back to Hebrews 6:19-20 and look at that last verse, because our hope is defined in a very direct wayin this verse.

Heb 6:19-20 This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.

Clearly Jesus is the blessed hope (Titus 2:13). We know that Jesus is interceding for us before the Father, and He is excited about what comes next. He is the soon-coming King! Amen! Our hope!

One of the great promises of the Bible is found in Psalms 31:24. "Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart, all you who hope in the LORD." If we hold fast to the anchor of our soul, we will not lose heart. We will be strengthened, so wewill be able to endure to the end! Glory!

1 Corinthians 13:13: And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Faith, hope, and love. Faith is what we stand on. Hope is what we are after. Love is the vehicle that takes us there! Thanksgiving. I amvery thankful for Faith, Hope and Love! Hold on to the anchor of your soul, Hope! Hope will hold you fast through any of life's storms.

Psalms 39:7 "And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You.

Jer 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Have a great holiday season and remember to be thankful that the anchor holds!

Prophetic Countdown -.......... SignsOfTheTimes

The signs of the times are all around us. Like the frog in the pot of water that is warmed up slowly, we do not jump out but stay until it is too late! I went into a large department store the other day shopping for a birthday gift for my now grown kids. As I looked for a video that I wanted to buy for them I was simply amazed at what lay before me.There wererows and rows of offerings and very little of anything good or wholesome to choose from. I was discussing with my son-in-law recently that around Halloween there were only horror movies after horror movies and not much else on the television at that time of year. His reply was an interesting fact. Jeff told me that there has never been a horror movie made that did not make money. Even the cheapest slashers always made money. Wow! That has to say something about the days we live in. Back to the department store experience ... I looked at all the offerings from Asian countries that look like cartoons, but are anything but. I noticed tons of videos that are centered around killing things or people, and then I came across the witchcraft and Harry section. Actually by the time I found the video I wanted, I needed deliverance! Oh, in every section just the covers were like soft porn. I could not imagine what might be inside! I blush at what is on prime-time TV these days, and I am not as sensitive as I need to be. I keep saying, "if this gets any worse!" I have not done anything yet. Could I be in hot water already?

The average American watches TV 4 to 6 hours a day! Kids under two years old are now watching television several hours a day! By the age of 18, American youth have seen 100,000 beer advertisements. The gay community has entered your living room, and the occult and pagan communities are ready for their debute already gaining great social acceptance through video games and Potter movies and books. As we see these things happening, we are not seeing some other things -- important things that were well established activities for the whole family just a few years back. In fact, we are not seeing family. We see people living together, having kids, and changing partners, and having more kids, and so on! We are seeing two women or two men living together. They think they should have kids and that all the kids at school should think that it is wonderful if you have two daddies and no mommy! We are also not seeing some things at the family place called church. We are not seeing Sunday school, evening worship, mid-week services, and vacation Bible schools. These things are just being dropped for the sake of what? More time for all this wonderful media! Could these besigns of the times?Moral Breakdown and Media Overload!

Just a thought! Maybe it is time for some of us to jump out of so much media and into more old-fashioned relationships, family activities, and even church, a social function that can be as wonderful as TV.

Signs of the times! Have you looked around lately? Have you thought about how much information we have today through these media channels and how few people are getting born into the kingdom of God. Time should be spent making relationships that lead to the salvation of people who are presently not going to make heaven. For Christians this should not be a novel thought. However, it may mean that Christians may have to miss some of their media time. The powerful gifts that God has given for us to operate in are there waiting for us to change the world with. Will we rise upto overcome and be victorious Christians, or will we choose to be entertained and media-smart! When our days are done and we stand before God, how important is it going to be that we have an i-phone, or that we have not missed a single episode of Desperate Housewives?

Decision One - Bogota, Columbia..... Prayer changes things... like me!

We love God by loving one another! We can all celebrate when one person becomes a new creation. The Bible says in Revelations 19:1, "After these things I heard a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, 'Alleluia! Salvation and glory and honor and power belong to the Lord our God!'" There is a celebration in heaven for even one person coming to know Jesus as Lord. Jesus said this in Luke 15:7, "I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance."

My dear friends, we will be training 500 pastors/leaders in Bogota, Columbia in a powerful soul-winning course that will transform the church and the city over the next several years. We hope for years to come that the impact will remain. We are not going tohave a crusade, or conference. We are going to train up an army, and we will leave these troops there permanently and not apologize for doing so. In the several days that we are there, we expect to see hundreds of souls won to the Lord Jesus. These pastors will train the leadership of their churches in preparation for our "City Assault." Then the next training sessions will take place all over the city as churches will be training their entire congregations to be avid proclaimers of the gospel. This is the start of the vision, as we take this same program to city after city throughout the North, Central and South America. Yes, you heard me right! We know that not thousands, but millions, will be discovering the living God and Savior Jesus Christ. Imagine the parties in heaven! The good news is this you can play a very active role and share in the victories and the rewards of this ministry. We will need many to help in a number of ways. The cost oftraveling and printing materials is great. We will need manpower and wisdom. We will need people helping us in the USA, Canada, Mexico, and all of Central and South America. God has not given us a small vision. These days we live in are possibly the most critical in the history of mankind. You can be a soul winner, a trainer of soul winners, a team member, or help in a number of different ways. Funding from businesses and churches andindividuals will be needed. I am so excited and heaven cannot wait for the party to get started! Please pray for this vital and massively important meeting that sets a central and strategic base camp.
Please mark your calenders and pray for us November 26th to December 4th, 2007.

Fred Hughes, Tony Poole, and Roger Reed will join Maria Gutierrez (Maru) andNelson and Alexandra Contreras along with several pastors who are helping with the conference and training school.

Blessings,

Fred Hughes
